Atlanta-based insurance servicer opening regional claims office in Allen
May 14, 2020 – An Atlanta-based insurance company service provider is ramping up its North Texas operations with a new office in Allen.
Crawford & Co. – an 80-year-old firm that describes itself as the world’s largest publicly listed independent provider of claims management and processing for the insurance industry — is leasing 70,000 square feet of offices on Greenville Avenue for the new operation, according to filings with the state.
The company is taking a two-story building just east of U.S. Highway 75 that previously housed the operations of HIT Entertainment.
Crawford & Co. serves clients in more than 70 countries and has several small offices in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
The Allen office will be used as a regional field office to house hundreds of adjusters when they are needed for specific claims events such as storm damage. The upgrades to the building are valued at more than $1.5 million and are scheduled for completion in October.
Dan Bowman, executive director and CEO of the Allen Economic Development Corp., said the new regional field claims office and disaster recovery center is expected to have nearly 700 employees at various times of year.
“This is a big win for Allen, as Crawford & Co. has a fantastic reputation and is taking a building that has been functionally vacant for over 10 years,” said Bowman. “The Allen Economic Development Corp. worked closely with the company to overcome obstacles and incentivize improvements to the property, the most notable of which is the doubling of the parking capacity and the retrofit of the facility.
“The additional parking spaces being constructed not only support Crawford but make 830 S. Greenville a much more attractive asset in the city of Allen.”
Commercial property firm Avison Young marketed the building, which was constructed in the 1990s, for lease.
Crawford & Co.’s Michelle Montgomery said the firm is already setting up the office.
“The Allen office is a new location and we are currently in the process of moving in,” Montgomery said in an email. “However, given social distancing and work from home protocols established by our company, we are limiting the number of employees in the office at any given time.”
